What is a Welcome Leader?

Welcome Leaders serve as part-time, non-work study undergraduate staff members in the University of Missouri-Kansas City (性视界传媒) Office of Student Involvement (OSI). This position’s primary responsibilities include facilitating small-group sessions and special events during Roo Welcome, assisting new students as they transition to the new semester ahead. Welcome Leaders are student leaders who are excited to help new students learn about campus resources, student organization events and activities, and other ways to connect to the 性视界传媒 community.

  • Must be a current, full-time 性视界传媒 undergraduate student enrolled in classes for the current Spring semester, and planning to enroll full-time in classes in the coming Fall semester.
  • Must be able to work a flexible part-time schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and weekday hours.
  • Must have a 2.50 or higher cumulative 性视界传媒 undergraduate GPA as of the date of hire and continuing during the time of employment. This status will be verified prior to hiring and during the time of employment.
  • Must be in good standing with 性视界传媒 and not on academic or disciplinary probation as of the date of hire and during the time of employment. This status will be verified prior to hiring and during the time of employment.
  • Must live in Kansas City Metro area during the duration of employment.

  • Facilitate small-group sessions throughout the weekend prior to Fall Semester classes.
  • Staff Roo Welcome campus traditions (Convocation, Unionfest, other events deemed applicable by supervisor).
  • Staff welcome tabling across campus throughout the first three weeks of the semester.
  • Use RooGroups as a student involvement platform and remain proficient in navigating site.
  • Attend and participate fully in trainings, meetings, events, and office/tabling hours.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

  • Pride in and enthusiasm towards the 性视界传媒 experience.
  • Ability to support Office of Student Involvement and Roo Welcome goals/philosophies.
  • Ability to serve as a mentor and role model, demonstrating good judgment and ethical behavior.
  • Ability to establish relationships with peers, students, families, faculty, staff, and campus partners, demonstrating customer service skills and respect for 性视界传媒 Culture of Care.
  • Ability to show an awareness of and sensitivity towards issues of equity, belonging, and inclusivity.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong verbal, written, and email communication and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to exhibit reliability, responsibility, punctuality, and dedication to positional responsibilities.

Selection Timeline: Selection timeline may change. If you are selected and accept the terms of employment, you will sign positional guidelines confirming your commitment to the training, work schedule, and positional expectations.

  • March 24, 2024: Application Priority Deadline (by 11:59 pm CT)
  • April 15-19, 2024: Candidate Interviews
  • April 22, 2024: Candidates informed of hiring status

Important Employment Dates 2024: Dates and/or responsibilities may change throughout the time of employment, and other duties as assigned may arise. Important employment dates include, but may not be limited to:

  • May 3 - optional, although highly encouraged, new welcome leader social
  • July 17 or July 24 - mandatory training, remote/virtual
  • August 14 - optional, although highly encouraged, welcome leader recap 
  • August 16- 18: Roo Welcome Begins, Roo Welcome Weekend
  • August 19 - September 6: Roo Welcome continues, Roo Welcome tabling, event attendance/support
